This emotionally charged film shows cruel realities in both the rough streets of Washington, DC and the sleepy rural town of Waterproof, Louisiana. A single mother struggles to keep her young son away from the gang-plagued city streets, but her son accidentally shoots a lonely widowed Jewish shopkeeper in a botched robbery attempt. In order to protect her son from the law, she kidnaps Eli Zeal and flees to her hometown of Waterproof.

In a classic situation of “time heals all wounds,” Tyree Battle finds the courage to face her own past, relieve her older brother of his burden and experience the love her family and small town have to offer. Eli finds understanding in the power of forgiveness; he begins to heal his own wounded soul and reconsider his future.

Waterproof represents a lasting tribute to the memory of Whitman Mayo and Anthony Lee, two incredible actors who have made a lasting impact on us all.

“I think that even though on the surface there is a difference between blacks and whites, Christians and Jews, northerners and southerners, there’s probably not much of a difference in families and how people love one another: what scares people; what makes them angry; what makes them hurt; what makes people happy; and what delivers them to their salvation.”
